Lynne Deutch's Italy series focuses less on travel and more on the idea of returning home. Even as a persistent global traveler, Italy remains an annual stop on her busy calendar with the same hotel serving as her home-base for every trip. This routine has led to a collection of close friends that feel like family and a region that feels less foreign with every trip. The familiarity in turn has made this location an evolving and deepening muse for Lynne, with new elements revealing themselves constantly. Just as a painter finds new ways to portray the same figure over many years, Lynne continues to discover new aspects of her Italian retreat that excite her. A few photographs from this series focus on a natural rock formation just off the coast. Each image though varies in perspective, time of day, and focal length, giving the same subject a different feel as colors shift and different elements are utilized to frame the enormous specimens, making them look and feel unique in each piece. This exercise can be applied to the rest of Lynne's Italy series as her perspective continues to evolve with each successive visit.
