In her India series, Lynne Deutch tackles the second most populous country on Earth by narrowing the frame of the viewer. Instead of broad street views or compressed telephoto shots illustrating the immense concentration of people, Lynne captures the human spirit of India by bringing you closer to community.
As viewers, we are used to seeing scenes packed full of merchants, animals, and residents fighting for space in congested streets and alleys. By traveling outside the city centers Lynne exposes images of India we are not accustomed to; enormous, stunning landscapes; empty lakes stretching to the horizon; portraits of solitary figures against wide open vistas; the joy of children.
